Fort St Angelo
Guarding the Grand Harbour
About Fort St Angelo
Fort St Angelo stands at the end of the Birgu peninsula and dominates the Grand Harbour. Known in 1274 as the Castrum Maris, the castle by the sea, it was the Knights’ stronghold in the Great Siege of 1565, and Heritage Malta calls it the boldest memorial of the islands’ strategic importance (heritagemalta.mt).
